This is an e-mailed scan of the original picture of Francis Marion & Sarah "Sally" Summers Abney that was sent to me by Glen Herrol from the Mattie Ethal Abney Black family (Mattie was a daughter of Francis & Sally).

Same photo in first stage of restoration.

Partially restored.

Same photo, partially restored & black & white.

Xerox copy of another photo of Francis & Sally.

Xerox copy of damaged tintype of Francis & Sally.

Partial restoration of the tintype.

As you can see, I do not draw. This picture and the next two will prove that....grin

This was my feeble attempt of repairing the tintype by drawing with pencil & paper.

I laughed and told a friend that I had taken about 15 pounds off her, but I'm sure she would have done the same for me...grin...Betty

These are daughters, Eunice, & Mattie with Mother, Sally Abney after Francis had died. I was told that Sally tried to farm to feed her children. The crop failed and she nearly starved to death. She encouraged her daughters to marry young to lighten her load. Some of them married at age 13. (One who married at 13, Jane Abney, celebrated her 60th anniversary with her husband, "Dutch" Pickens) More about Eunice & Mattie on their pages.

The side of Sally's stone. It has Thomas's information on one side, and Sally's on the other. Thomas was the teenage son of Sally & Francis.

Closeup of the old stone beside the newer stone of Thomas Abney.

This small tombstone belongs to Thomas Abney, teenage son of Francis and Sally Abney. His information is also on the side of Sally's stone.

Thomas & Sally's tombstone is the tall one in the back. Thomas's old one is the small one beside the tall one. The two in the foreground are for Matthew & Susan Pickens (Two more of my great grand parents). They are the parents of two of Sally's sons-in-law. The two sons, married Abney sisters, Sarah Isabell & Jane Abney. This is New Hope Cemetery in Van Zandt county, Texas.

The next few pictures are of Francis Marion Abney's tombstone. I took the pictures two or three different times. It is a very small stone located beside a cemetery roadway. It is only about 18 or 20 inches tall. It is located in the College Mound Cemetery in Kaufman county Texas. It is only about 1/4th mile South, off interstate 20. Easy access.

F. M. Abney tombstone. Brother-in-law, William Glenn is buried nearby. William's first wife and the sister of Francis, Elizabeth Jane Abney Glenn, is also buried nearby. Francis & Sally's baby, Mildred is buried at the foot of Jane Abney Glenn, her father's sister. Jane and Mildred were both killed on Oct. 18, 1874 when they were thrown from a wagon.
