Joshua Abney Born Dec. 1810------Died Nov. 30, 1860 Abney Cemetery located in Saline County Il. There are few gravestones left in the cem. William's stone is pictured behind the tree. Paul & Joshua's broken stones are in the foreground. The small tall stone in the center is Paul's footstone.
Paul was born July 17, 1843 & Died April 28, 1862. He never married. He was a Pvt. in Co. C. 31st Ill. Inf. in Civil War. Killed in action. Buried in Old Abney Cem. . Some of the family including his brother William, went to Tenn. to pick up his body which was wrapped in cloth, and returned to Ill. Paul was just a little over 18 years old.
William's sandstone headstone is broken and a portion is missing. The inscription that was left in April 1985 reads: "Died Sept 19, 1864 5 mo. 29 days." The original probably read "Born March 21, 1842, Died Sept. 19, 1864 age 24 Ys., 5 mo. 29 days." His birth was March 21, 1842 and he died Sept 19, 1864.
Census record shows William born in 1842. He was a Pvt. Co. c. 31st Ill. Inf. - Civil War. He died at a relatively early age shortly after returning from the Civil War in 1864. He never married. He died in 1864 of an infection. William was buried in Old Abney Cem. His is one of the few gravestones left in the cem.
