Fannie had been in Terrell two weeks, visiting in the home of a daughter, Mrs. E. W. Brockway, when she passed away at age 80. She was survived by 9 children, 31 grand children, and 14 great grand children. She died in a Terrell Hosp. about 6 P.M. Wed.. This info. was from her obituary .

Dot Phillips (Mother) said that Alvin got to be baby of family twice because when she lost Bettie Joe, that made Alvin her youngest child again. Alvin said that a black cat came to their house a few days before Bettie died. The family was superstitious and he never allowed a black cat to live at his home, even in later years.Bettie's obituary reads: Bettie Joe Phillips, age one month and seven days, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Phillips near Scott Saturday night and her remains were interred in the Primrose cemetery Sunday afternoon, the funeral being directed by Eubank Bros.
A hand written letter found in Dot's Bible,(probably written by someone at the funeral home and to be used as an obituary for the paper), reads:
Betty Joe Phillips
After---------- illness, little Betty Joe, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Phillips died May 13 at 2:30 A.M.. At the time of her demise little Betty Joe was five weeks and three days old.
She was laid to rest in the Primrose Cemetery Sunday afternoon at 4:00 O'clock. Rev. Beard of Canton conducted funeral services.
To the bereaved parents and relatives of this dear little baby we extend our sympathy and----------you to the Savior who alone can heal broken hearts.

Daddy was married pev. to Gladys Pippen they had one son Charles Lee. He was killed in the Korean war. From what I can find out Daddy didn't want him to join the service but his Mom signed the papers. I was told that the last time Daddy seen him was at Fannie's funeral and he was mad at Daddy for not letting him join . Anyway you know the rest they divorced and Mom and him married. Alvin and his oldest son, Tony, farmed about 80 acres of sweet potatoes for about 10 years afterward, then Alvin retired again.
